The courage of a sex abuse victim

Although this news first came out last month, we at CJG feel it important enough to keep talking about. A 28-year old woman who calls herself Jamie phoned her former teacher, who had sexually molested her for years starting when Jamie was her student. Jamie did this when she was frustrated to find that the statute of limitations on what the teacher had done had expired. During the recorded phone call, the teacher admitted that she had brainwashed and manipulated Jamie and that what she had done was the kind of thing that should be taken care of by law enforcement.

Jamie then bravely posted the phone call on YouTube. A story from CNN about Jamie’s posting, with a link to the video, can be seen here. We applaud Jamie and all survivors like her, who often spend years working up the courage to confront their abusers. We also understand that it’s never easy to do, and each survivor has to choose the path that fits for them.
