Leto Copeley and Ann Groninger recently settled a personal injury claim for a man who was catastrophically injured after he was rear-ended while stopped in his vehicle. His wife also had claims for loss of consortium. The firm’s client, a critical care nurse, was waiting for oncoming traffic to clear so that he could make a left turn into a business. He was hit from the rear by the driver of an SUV who was performing an errand for her employer. The driver of the SUV didn’t see the plaintiff’s truck until she hit him. The aftermath of the crash was caught on the surveillance video of a nearby business.
An off-duty firefighter happened on the scene and stabilized our client until emergency personnel was able to attend to him, ventilate him, and get him airlifted to the nearest major medical facility. The plaintiff, whose neck was broken by the impact, has never been able to move or to breathe independently since. At the time of the injury, his wife was pregnant with their first child.
The plaintiff is able to live at home attended by 24-hour skilled nurses. A day-in-the-life video effectively illustrated the plaintiff’s grueling daily routine and the dramatic effect his injury has had on his family.
